Report Updated 12/12 by Captain Tris Colket Last Mango Fishing Charters: Fort Pierce Marina - These days the talk is all about the ongoing sailfish tournament season. With both the “Finest Kind Quickie” and “Pirates Cove Sailfish Classic” over with and the “54th Annual Stuart Light Tackle Tournament” now underway, there is some very serious sailfishing going on offshore.
The fish have cooperated most days with172 sailfishfish caught and released by just 22 boats in the three day “Pirates Cove” event.
Good news for Fort Pierce fans is that Glen Cameron on the Charter Boat ‘Floridian’ out of Ft. Pierce City Marina is continuing to live up to his ledgendary fishing skill. The Floridian took 2nd in the Quickie, 1st in Pirates Cove and was at the top of the leader board as of last night in the Stuart Light Tackle.
Even better news for those of you who are interested in ‘bringing home the bacon’ is that the bite is on east of Ft. Pierce and both dolphin and kingfish are plentiful around the same bait that is attracting the sails. Boats are reporting catches of 10-20 dolphin and having to fight off the kings for both sails and dolphin. Look for the bite from 130 ft out to 200 ft of water.
The tournament season moves to Ft.Pierce in Jan. beginning with the “Pink Ladies” one day charity event for Breast Cancer Awareness on Jan 3rd , the Ft. Pierce Sailfish Derby following on the 4th-6th, and the world famous Pelican Tournament the next week.
Look for many of your favorite ‘Ft. Pierce Charter Boats’ in these upcoming Tournaments.
I know that the Floridian, Last Mango, Class Act and Ruby Gene will all be out there in January. Their schedules will be filling up so book a trip with one of them. Call the City Marina for Captains phone numbers..
Happy Holidays,
Capt. Tris
